Summer Express -- workshopsMar 2007
“Summer Express” this year presented six intensive workshops lined up for April-May that engaged at least 230 kids.
Ranga Shankara collaborated with the NGO Children’s Lovecastle Trust (CLT) for one of the workshops.
B Jayashri worked with 50 children from government schools who had seen the children’s play in Ranga Shankara, “Gumma Banda Gumma”.
Dadi Padamjee, the master puppeteer from New Delhi worked with 20 children, teaching them the basic craft of puppet making.
Padmavati Rao, theatre practitioner and educationist worked with children and teachers.
Neeraj Kabi, actor and director from Mumbai worked with kids.
Each workshop evolved a platform performance that will be showcased in Ranga Shankara throughout the year.
Padmavati Rao ran theatre workshops for children over the summer at Ranga Shankara. Over two sessions, more than forty young people were able to experience basic theatre training as well as have a ton of fun.
Support from AHA! made it possible to hold a ten-day workshop conducted by Vibhavari Deshpande and Padmavati Rao to find actors and crew for Ranga Shankara’s home production for children, Gumma Banda Gumma. The 19 participants in the workshop were all below the age of 25.
Five actors, five back-stage hands, one lighting designer and one sound operator emerged from this group. Although they are all members of different local theatre troupes, they come together for Gumma Banda Gumma when it plays at Ranga Shankara.
