Abhiyana is an excerpt from the Mahabharatha. The play revolves around Ambe, princess of Kashi, her passionate love towards Salve, Prince of Soubhala. Ambe's love fails at her swayamvara when Bheeshma, from Hastinapur enters the swayamvara and defeats prince Saalva and other kings and forcibly takes Ambe and her sisters Ambike and Ambalike to get them married to his impotent brother Vichitraveerya as per the orders of Queen Sathyavathi, Raajamathe of Hasthinapur. Unlike Ambike and Ambalike, Ambe raises her voice against this heinous act by Hastinapur dynasty and goes back to Prince Salva, but gets rejected by him as well. Ambe comes back to Bheeshma and insists him to marry her but in vain. And then Ambe questions the entire society for this unjust act and represents every other woman of today's generation throughout the play seeking equality, justice, respect and freedom.
