“Do I Know You”- A collaboration between Ranga Shankara and Schnawwl Theatre, Germany
The AHA! International Theatre for Children Festival marked the beginning of a collaboration between Ranga Shankara and Schnawwl Theater, Mannheim, Germany. This project is funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation / Wanderlust Fund. It is also sponsored by The Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan Bangalore.
In essence, the project is a three-year partnership for intercultural theatre for children and young people. It aims to increase the participants intercultural competency, provide cultural impulses, stage/ produce three top-class productions and awaken the enthusiasm of young audiences for a contemporary intercultural theatre.
The project so far:
· The Great Lalula, a play presented by Schnawwl Theatre, Germany at the AHA! International Festival ’09 marked the beginning of Theatre for the Very Young in India. The play was for children aged 20 months to 3 years.
· During the course of the festival, Schnawwl’s theatre pedagogues accompanied the guest performance and worked through the process of devising plays for small children in an intensive workshop with Indian pedagogues.
What to look forward to:
· “Robinson and Crusoe”, the play that launched the AHA! programme will be produced, with an Indian cast. This play will be directed by Gracias Devaraj, one of the actors of the earlier Schnawwl production of the play. The play will premier in February 2010.
· A co-production which will be staged in the first half of 2011. Await further details on this!
