In an effort to involve the robust corporate and student communities of Bangalore to Keep Theatre Alive, Ranga Shankara has extended invitations to organisations, colleges and young, budding directors to participate in the Ranga Shankara Theatre Festival 2006 scheduled from 8th to 15th October.
A group of young and upcoming directors have been identified to conduct a 7 to 10 days Theatre Workshop each in a college and a corporate house. The director will have the opportunity of working with a single script and bringing out two interpretations of the same scripts.
The Workshop will culminate in a One-Act Play; a platform performance which will be staged an hour before the full-length performance during the Theatre Festival at Ranga Shankara. On the day assigned to your Troupes, two platform performances will be staged.
Slotted to be a great draw for the youth of Bangalore the timing of these platforms and its length ensures a great way to introduce theatre to the youngsters who are not yet initiated.
Bareeri 2006
Ranga Shankara continues its commitment to developing newer and better informed audiences for theatre with its BAREERI writing program for theatre critics.
The program began with Fest ‘05 festival and was supported by the National School of Drama, New Delhi. Fest ‘05 saw 15 journalists from the districts of Karnataka brought to Bangalore for an intensive two week-long writing workshop during the festival. The workshops were lead by nationally known theatre critic Keval Arora from New Delhi and culture commentator Sadanand Menon from Chennai. Local commentators and critics such as Bhaskar Rao and G K Govind Rao were also part of the faculty. This program was conducted in English and Kannada.
Since then, three of the participants have become active theatre critics in their districts and write regularly about theatre.
This year, BAREERI focuses on working journalists of Bangalore and nearby metros such as Chennai and Hyderabad. The workshop will run for three days and will be conducted in English by Keval Arora and Sadanand Menon.
BAREERI is Ranga Shankara's active contribution to creating and sustaining a theatre culture in the city.
